Make ‘Em Laugh: Comedy Course

Comedy is a funny business.

This course will take you through tips on writing, performing and producing comedy, ending with the chance to perform in a professional show.

Each class member will gain tips on delivering a "Tight 5" minute routine. The standard starting point for any comedian, whether this is stand-up, sketch, physical or alternative comedy.

The course will also improve public speaking skills, supply writing tips, show comedic problem solving techniques, and give an insight into Festival touring life.

This is the first time running the course, so it is offered at a special introductory price.

Week 1: The basics everyone should know to Make 'Em Laugh.

  • Wednesday 6 May, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Week 2: A focus on performance, improv and having fun on stage.

  • Wednesday 13 May, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Week 3: Specialist writing tips and workshopping routines with a guest host.

  • Wednesday 20 May, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Week 4: The business of producing, and last chance workshop.

  • Wednesday 27 May, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Week 5: The Show, with seats for the public to attend.

The full course is limited to 10 attendees each night, weeks 1 to 4, with the week 5 show open to the pubic audience to see the graduation show with a special guest MC from Melbourne.

The course is aimed at ages 18+.

Hosts include:

Luke Morris, producer of the Bendigo Comedy Festival and Comedy Victoria shows, as well as writer for publications and presenter of solo shows at festivals in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, and Dunedin.
